Overview

Panch Kedar

Panch Kedar is a collection of five Hindu temples in Uttarakhand's Garhwal area. "Panch Kedar" means "five Kedars," with "Kedar" referring to Lord Shiva. The five temples are thought to represent Lord Shiva's five holy abodes, and each temple is linked with a different section of his body. The temples are in isolated and gorgeous areas in the Himalayas and are famous pilgrimage sites for Lord Shiva worshippers.

Panch Kedar's five temples are:

Kedarnath: The Kedarnath temple is the most prominent and well-known of the Panch Kedar temples. It is located at the Mandakini River's head at an elevation of 3,583 metres (11,755 feet) above sea level. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is said to have been erected by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period.

Tungnath: The Tungnath temple is the tallest temple devoted to Lord Shiva and is located at an elevation of 3,680 metres (12,073 ft) above sea level. It is part of the Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary and is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand.

Rudranath: The Rudranath temple is located in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district at an elevation of 2,286 metres (7,500 feet) above sea level. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is said to be the location where Lord Shiva's visage appeared after he vanished from Kedarnath.

Madhyamaheshwar: The Madhyamaheshwar temple is located in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district at an elevation of 3,497 metres (11,473 ft) above sea level. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is said to be the location of Lord Shiva's navel after he vanished from Kedarnath.

Kalpeshwar:The Kalpeshwar temple is located in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district at an elevation of 2,134 metres (7,000 feet) above sea level. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is said to be the location where Lord Shiva's hair arrived after he vanished from Kedarnath.

Devotees regard the trip to Panch Kedar to be both challenging and rewarding. The hike to the temples takes you through challenging and spectacular landscape, with each temple at a greater height than the one before it. The pilgrimage is traditionally done in a particular order, beginning with Kedarnath and finishing with Kalpeshwar.
