Overview

Agra is a city in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located on the Yamuna River's banks and is home to numerous notable structures, including the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Agra has a long history dating back to ancient times. It was governed by various dynasties, notably the Mughals, who built the city's most famous monuments. During the Mughal Empire, Agra was also an important hub of trade and commerce.

The Taj Mahal, Agra's most famous landmark, is a symbol of love and devotion. It was created in commemoration of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's adored wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is a white marble structure with elaborate carvings and decorations. It is surrounded by lovely gardens and is regarded as one of the most magnificent structures in the world.

Apart from the Taj Mahal, Agra is home to a number of other significant monuments. The Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage monument that was erected in the 16th century by Mughal emperor Akbar. The fort is built of red sandstone and has a number of palaces and mosques.

Another significant landmark in Agra is Itimad-ud-Mausoleum. Daulah's It is also known as the "Mini Taj" owing to its design resemblance to the Taj Mahal. Empress Nur Jahan erected the mausoleum in remembrance of her father.

Handicrafts including as leather items, marble inlay work, and handwoven textiles are also popular in Agra. Visitors may shop for these things, as well as spices, jewellery, and souvenirs, at the city's bazaars.

Agra is a renowned tourist destination in India because of its rich history, gorgeous architecture, and distinct cultural heritage. Its monuments and handicrafts make it a fascinating destination for tourists from all over the world.
