Overview

Meghalaya is an Indian state in the northeastern area. It is well-known for its scenic beauty, plentiful rainfall, and diverse cultural history. Meghalaya is also called as the "abode of clouds" because of the copious rains it gets every year.

Meghalaya's natural beauty is one of its main draws. The state is home to various waterfalls, including the Nohkalikai Falls, India's tallest plunge cascade, and the Elephant Falls, a popular picnic destination. The state also has various lakes and rivers, such as Umiam Lake and the Dawki River, that are famous for boating and water sports.

Meghalaya is also famous for its one-of-a-kind living root bridges, which are created by intertwining the roots of rubber plants. The most famous of these bridges is the UNESCO World Heritage Site double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat.

The state is also well-known for its illustrious cultural legacy. Meghalaya's primary ethnic groupings are the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia tribes, each with its own distinct culture and customs. The Wangala Dance and the Shad Suk Mynsiem Dance are two of the state's most famous traditional dances.

The Nongkrem Dancing Festival, held each year in the village of Smit, is one of Meghalaya's biggest events. The event commemorates the harvest season and showcases the Khasi tribe's rich cultural heritage.

Meghalaya also has various national parks and wildlife refuges, such as the Nokrek National Park and the Balpakram National Park. These parks are home to a variety of wildlife, including the uncommon clouded leopard, Hoolock Gibbon, and Asian elephant.

Overall, Meghalaya is a must-see location for wildlife and cultural enthusiasts. It has a unique combination of natural beauty, rich cultural legacy, and adventurous activities, making it an ideal location for those seeking an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
